Budget Getaways Review

Overlooking McGregor’s postcard snapshot of shimmering tin roofs, church spires and hazy hills, this little beauty on the village outskirts is custom-made for couples.

Flipping through the guest comments, the feeling seems mutual, “What a beautiful spot!” “We loved our stay.” “We can’t wait to return.”

A quaint little number daubed in whitewash, The Stips Cottages annexes a larger abode; this said, there's more than enough privacy, what with your own entrance, private courtyard and garden.

The general vibe and decor is light and airy, with tinted screed floors, pale fabrics and high ceilings.

The open-plan bedroom features a Queen bed, crisp white linen, bathroom with loo and shower.

Set off to the side is a reading area with comfy couches and wood-burning stove - just the spot to nail that Danielle Steele novel you nicked on the Kulula flight to Joburg.

Off to the other side is a small equipped kitchen... which you might or might not need given McGregor's healthy spread of eateries.

Throwing open the double doors reveals a sun-drenched stoep and garden.

Apart from great outlook over the village, Stips is a short stroll from the action, meaning you can hang up the car keys and mozy about on foot.

Great location, nice presentation, quality furnishings, more than enough privacy, The Stips would appear to be a couple no-brainer.

Guest Reviews

"We absolutely enjoyed our stay at the Stips! Simplistic, modern living, stunning are words that come to mind when I think of our time spent there. We were so warmly welcomed to McGregor by the owners, Tony and Jenny and their friends, as well as the community of McGregor itself. We thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the quiet, gently and stillness of this town and we will surely be back for this treasure."

"The Stips Cottage is home for me when in South Africa. The situation is ideal, a brief walk into the centre of the village and in the opposite direction an equally brief walk into a nature reserve. The views across the valley are wonderful."

"We had a relaxed and happy stay in this accommodation which is well fitted out and well decorated with a welcoming and comfortable feel, spotlessly clean, light and spacious. It is situated in a quiet country road within close walking distance to the village and it has the advantage of a slightly elevated view over the beautiful valley. We will return again and again to soak up the peace and quiet."

"What a beautiful spot!"

"We loved our stay!"

"What a wonderful three days at The Stips! Immaculate and tastefully decorated with kitchenette, fire place (needed on chilly nights) and comfy chairs to relax in, made us feel totally at home. Everything we needed was on hand. Early morning coffee was enjoyed viewing the Riviersonderend mountains, from our queen size bed, a great way to start the day. The cottage is situated on a hillside overlooking the village with the unique Klein Karoo flora surrounding it. This gave us a real sense of being in nature and a feel for McGregor. Our evening walk into the village was heart warming as we were greeted with such friendliness by the locals. How good it was to return to our lovely space for a sundowner on our own veranda. Thank you to our hosts, Tony and Jenny who helped make it such a great experience. We can't wait to return!"
