Budget Getaways Review
Now under new ownership, Goedereede is a family-oriented getaway 8km from Robertson, with a total of five 3-star (SA Tourism) graded cottages.
You’ll find two of these alongside a cute farm dam and a further three options next to the main house and the general comings and goings of farm life.
With ducks, fish and canoes, and access to the Breede River, even the most uninspired child will be kept entertained for hours, in turn allowing mom and dad deserved rest.
Appointed on the dam, Stable Cottage (sleeps six) and Dam Cottage (sleeps two) are set directly alongside each other and are simple relaxed affairs.
Stable Cottage features an open-plan kitchen and lounge (with telly), tiled floors, original beam ceilings alternating with the low modern type, two bedrooms (one with bunks for the kids), and two bathrooms. From the livingroom, glass doors open to a paved patio and braai area.
Dam Cottage offers an equally appealing outlook of dangling weaver nests, patrolling ducks, golden vineyards and a distant ring of mountains. It has two single beds.
Up near the main house, you’ll find the four-bed Garden Cottage, which sports two bedrooms and shared bathroom. The Rondawel (affectionetly known as “Nipple Palace”) sleeps two in a double bed, while Corner Cottage is also a simple two-bed affair.
The abvove three units are next to the main house and passing road, so in our books, Dam and Stable are the units to book - preferably as a single unit.
All the above come with air-con, equipped kitchens and own braai areas. The first batch of wood is provided.
A farm track cuts from here through fields of strawberries and spanspek, fruit trees and vineyards, and comes to a halt on the banks of the Breede River. Lined with a dense wall of papyrus on one side and a lazy choc-chip mountain on the other, the river is a cacophony of birdlife and offers good fishing, swimming and canoeing.
"Beautiful farm with amazing views. Our highlight of the stay was the cats that came to visit us. There's also a dam that's not too far from the cottages which is absolutely beautiful. We also saw bats flying low during the night. It was amazing."

"The cottage was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The welcome was warm and the staff very obliging and friendly. The farm is varied and interesting, a definite for another visit. The cottage next door was empty but had it been occupied, noise and privacy may have been a problem."

"Awesome!"

"We spent a couple of days at Dam Cottage, Goedereede Robertson. The setting was spectacular on the edge of the dam. The cottage was very tastefully decorated and comfortable. We were able to sit on the veranda and fish for carp in the dam. We enjoyed lovely walks in the fruit orchards. It's very close to Robertson for lovely day trips. Merlot, the local farm dog was very welcoming and friendly. We would definitely recommend it for a lovely quiet break and de-stress!"

"We enjoyed our stay on this beautiful farm tremendously. We were greeted kindly and showed to the cottage which was very neat with comfortable decor and filled with everything we could possibly need. Definitely reccomend this place and will return there myself."

"Goedereede Guest Farm is a little slice of heaven. We stayed in Dam Cottage which is literally right on the dam, affording a beautiful view of the orchards and mountain with ducks swimming lazily past. We were held up on Friday and arrived two hours later than check in, but Christine was more than accommodating and was there to welcome us with a smile. The cottages are very well-equipped, and the orchards bursting with fresh fruit were an absolute treat! Thank you so much Christine, we will definitely be back. Great value for money!"

"Goedereede Guest Farm, is one of the best farms I've visited. It is very peaceful and relaxing, the hospitality is excellent - the owners allowed us to walk through the farm and freely pick fresh fruit from the farm whenever we please. The garden, pool and dam area is great - and open for anyone living on the farm to use. I am looking forward to my next visit. "

"A quiet, relaxing getaway with beautiful views, lots to do, very clean and comfortable facilities and welcoming hosts."

"Very good breakaway from the bustling city life, the calmness of the dam setting, waking up to the chirpiness of birds and other farm sounds, and an early morning walk or run through the vineyards to the Breede River (a mere kilometer away) that runs through the farm, makes this an idyllic destination."

"It's a secluded break away. Very quiet on the dam and we also took a beautiful walk in the vineyards which had a charming backdrop. The service was always professional."

"We had a fantastic time and would recommend Goedereede to anyone especially if you do have small children as there so much for them to do and entertain themselves. For the adult it is really relaxing and a fantastic experience."
(visited January 2015)
"Our cottage was in a wonderful setting with the dam right in front of it and the mountains stretching out as far as the eye can see. We were blessed with wonderful weather and made the most of it by cycling in the orchards alongside the Breede River as well as canoe-ing on the dam. It may be a little close to the neighbouring cottage but we think if we go back we will book both the bigger cottage and ours and take the extended family along."

"What a lovely place to stay! Our accommodation was overlooking the dam, where we caught numerous carp, and even a catfish! The mountain backdrop, with orchards, was the perfect place to relax for a few days. We were given fresh Melons, Strawberries and Peaches off the farm, as well as tomatoes. Karl also kindly took canoes to the river for us. Only downside of the accommodation was that there is only one bedroom, with more beds in the open plan lounge / kitchen area, and bunk beds in another area. This is fine for kids, but not for adults. A great place to unwind."

"Loved it. Breakfast was amazing. Home made bread and jams with fresh strawberries. Rooms spacious. So much wood to braai with. Braai got cleaned every day. I had a lovely stoep with cottage. So many activities for us to do. Went to Viljoensdrif for ferry ride. Visited Birds Paradise. My children loved Spur with their nice playpen. Friendly staff. At Goedereede there is a small dam and the children took turns to practice with canoe. There's also a lovely lawn and the went horse riding close by. Amazing break-away and very good value for money."

"It was a wonderful relaxing weekend. The friendly people, clean chalet, the farm atmosphere and delicious breakfast was excellent. My 3-year old boy described it as "mommy, it was AMAZING". Thank you very much."

"Loved the place and have been threatening to go back before October. Very accommodating hosts, great venue with your own private garden and a water pipe which lulls you to sleep. Was disappointed that I had to leave and get back to city life. Got some great fruit and veggies from Karl before I left for home. The fishing in the dam was great. Overall, not a single complaint from my side! See you all soon!"

"A wonderful weekend spent at Goedeerede. Great facilities, comfortable and clean and attention paid to the finer essentials. Thank you for the complimentary bottle of your fine wine. Great pride taken in the beautiful garden setting. A few minutes away from town where we visited Birds Paradise. Real value for money..."

"This is a quiet, relaxing getaway which I enjoyed to the fullest. It was just what I needed. The service was excellent and the people are extremely friendly! I recommended that my sister and her fiance go there as well, and she also had a fantastic time! Thank you to Karl Pretorius and his wife!"

"My husband and myself, plus my small Jack Russell, visit the farm every year. I am in the tourism industry as well, and I find the service, cleaniness, friendliness and willing to help just too fantastic. I have been going to the farm for a couple of years now, since I have a small dog, and hopefully will continue going for many years to come. Well done, Karl and Elsa."
(visited March 2009)
"We had such a relaxing weekend on the farm, swimming, braaing, picking peaches, canoeing and, of course, the wine, which is some of the best I have had and really good value for money. Karl and Elsa made sure we left with a couple of spanspek and butternut; extraordinary hosts and a 5-star breakfast for kings. Thank you, we will definitely be returning and bringing a few more people along."
(visited January 2009)
"Thank you Elsa and Karl. What an amazing weekend we (8 ladies) had. The breakfast was outstanding. The apricot jam I bought is delicious too. And the strawberries are the best. Thank you, thank you, thank you!"
(visited October 2008)
"Thank you once again, we (8 ladies) had a wonderful relaxing weekend and as usual you made our stay even better, breakfast outstanding... Sorry we did not book to have two breakfasts instead of the one. We will all be back for sure. Regards, Desiree & Friends."
(visited October 2008)
"Wow! What a wonderful weekend we had.... From the cottage, the views, the breakfast, the farm tour, the wine, the fruit, the hosts.... Everything was just perfect! Thank you Karl and Elsa, we WILL be back."
(visited August 2008)
"My husband and I stayed in the Rondawel, which we really enjoyed. There are loads of things to see and do, great places to eat at and wine tasting. Our hosts Karl and Elsa were very welcoming. Great looooong weekend away."

"Karl and his team went out of their way to make our stay wonderful. Stunning place!"
(visited August 2007)
"We had an amazing time. Karl and Else are the perfect hosts. We picked our own strawberries striaght from the plants. Breakfasts are brilliant. Walking amongst the fruit trees and along the river made for the perfect weekend break. We will definitely be back - a great escape from the big city."
(visited September 2006)
"This used to be one of my favourite spots until they built the one cottage almost on top of the other one. It was not supposed to be that way; as I understand it's supposed to be an add-on to the original."
(visited June 2006)
"Stunning place, great hospitality. The hosts are friendly and we loved the tour of the farm, enjoying fruit with our host Karl. Long walks among the fruit trees with our hounds at our side was very enjoyable. We enjoyed lovely sunsets with great wine next to the fire. Definitely highly recommended."
(visited April 2006)
"There are now 4 cottages. The problem is they seem to have placed two of the cottages right next to one another. The cottages are way too close to the house. The dam is really cool and great to swim in. The river is a short drive away on the farm and the canoes provided make for a cool morning paddle. Felt it was a bit overpriced based on other getaways." "This is my favourite getaway, it's awesome sitting on the patio watching the the sun set, with Karl's lovely wine and the fire next to you. This is really good value for money and one of the less expensive getaways."
