Budget Getaways Review
A rustic and homely mountain retreat on a small fruit and wine farm in the beautiful Keisie Valley - 24km outside Montagu - Keisie offers a row of three converted cottages (Lavender, Vine, and Fig Tree) and a four-bedroomed house (Gooseberry).
The cottages have wonderful views and are fully equipped, including useful touches like tea, coffee and sugar, large traditional fireplaces and feather duvets in winter.
Surrounded by tranquil nature, then the cottages fit the bill: rustic, cute, comfortable and intimate, with everything you need for self-catering.
These cottages are separated from each other by latte screens and circled by pretty gardens, including two acres of roses.
If you’re bringing the in-laws, kids and a cousin or two, then take a look at Gooseberry House, which can sleep up to 10 people. Gooseberry has four bedrooms equipped with a mix of double, twin and bunk bed options. There are two bathrooms and a separate loo. The kitchen is kitted out with all you’ll need for mass self-catering, while the lounge sports a Dover stove and flat screen TV for rainy days.
As with the cottages, you’re surrounded by nothing but nature and gardens from the comfort of the large stoep.
The farm is close to Protea Farm and its "world famous" tractor ride to the top of the Langeberg - that's your Saturday taken care of. The rest of the weekend will be taken up by swimming in the dam and rock pools, mountain biking, bird-watching, gathering your own veg and herbs from the veggie garden and long walks and pre-braai strolls among the roses - while reciting a Shakespearian sonnet to your loved one.
A good value and tranquil option in a beautiful neck of the Cape woods.
"We had the loveliest time at Kesie. The cottage was wonderfully private, we were able to hike, pick vegetables, visit Montagu and experience farm life. I would recommend them to anyone needing a break from the city life."

"Our long weekend stay (Friday to Monday) at Keisie Cottages was an absolute pleasure. Set in an utterly picturesque valley and right next to a fantastic swimming poo,l our stay at Vine Cottage was wonderful. Lovely little cottage with all the amenities you could wish for and as comfortable as you could wish for. A major added bonus for us is that the cottages are pet friendly and we could bring our little miniature schnauzer with us. She not only had a wonderful "adventure" but got to make friend with the manager Pauline's little miniature schnauzer as well. Our only disappointment (if you could call it that) was that due to the drought the little river that runs through the property had dried up. I can only imagine how gorgeous it would be to have it running. We can't wait to come back and are already busy planning a trip for winter."

"A very beautiful setting in the Koo Valley Mountains. No cell phone coverage is a bonus to get away from the busy city life. Overall it was a very fun, lazy weekend! It was perfect for just "going under the radar" and re-fueling the energy levels. I'm definitely going again and would highly recommend this to everyone."

"Wonderful setting and accommodation for either a romantic or a family break. Although the weather didn't play its part, the fireplace made up for it. Surroundings make for unbelievable pictures. See you next year!"

"I just stayed at the Keisie Cottages last weekend and I have had the most wonderful experience. The Keisie cottages are set in the most beautiful Keisie Valley which is spectacular and set in between mountain ranges that surround them. The cottages are quaint, cozy and comfortable and served in all my needs. They have everything you would need for a much needed get-away from the busy city life. Loved the fireplaces! The fresh and sweet smelling air, the beautiful surrounds and the peace and quiet of the cottages near a little stream with an abundance of birds was soothing and restful. I found everything to be in working order and clean. I would definitely return to this beautiful valley and these quaint cottages!"

"We had a wonderful weekend and our three dogs had an absolute ball."

"What a disapointmant, a summary, the toilet was dirty and was leaking, the kitchen tap was leaking behind the cupboards, the dishes were dirty, paint is pealing off the walls, the sealing was hanging down at several places, the shower drain is blocked so you stand in your own soup. And all this for R500 plus R50 cleaning. We have stayed at far better places for less."

"We pride ourselves on giving our guests a superior experience in a wonderful and peaceful farm setting and we undertake a personal management inspection of each unit prior to arrival of the guests to ensure that everything is perfect. I am surprised to read Mr Tersmette's comments as his experience is a first in the 8 years of running Keisie Cottages. Our own pre-arrival inspection did not record any of the problems mentioned and it is most unfortunate that he did not bring these issues to our attention while he was there so that any perceived problems could be immediately addressed. As we accommodated Mr Tersmette for a single night on a weekend when our policy is a minimum stay of 2 nights, we charge the extra R50 to cover cleaning costs."

"We had such a fantastic time at Keisie Cottages. What I really appreciated is that it is exactly as described on the website. The setting is beautiful and very peaceful. A great place for walks and cycling... or just lying around and reading and gazing at the stunning mountains from the comfy bed every now and then! Toni and Mike were wonderful hosts and went out of their way to help us when our car got stuck as we were leaving... even to the point of fetching a neighbour to help. We really enjoyed our stay, and will definitely visit again."

"What a stunning retreat, just far enough out of town to rejuvinate the soul, and close enough for a weekend away. Tucked away in the valley, the surrounding farm and mountain views are breathtaking - the air is crisp and clean and it is quiet, save for the sounds of nature. The walks around the farm and in the mountains are lovely, especially with the friendly hounds to guide you! All in all a fabulous retreat well worth the visit."

"What a great place to get away from the city and rejuvenate yourself. It is absolutely tranquil and relaxing. The setting is really beautiful, and Toni and Mike are great hosts. A highlight was being able to wander around the farm and to pick herbs from the veg garden."
