You’re frazzled, the wife's burnt out, and the the kids are swinging from the chandelier. It's time for some of Dr Getaway's healing lotion: a secret blend of wide open space and fresh farm air. ?
Qui-Si-Sana (aptly translated as "Here we heal") sits just outside Montagu on the way to the breathtaking Koo Valley. With 26ha to roam, more than enough to do, five unpretentious self-catering units (plus two rooms in the Cape Dutch homestead), a lush garden and views towards the mountains, it's built for en-masse family fun.
Several of the self-catering cottages are in close proximity, so choose accordingly. They're also unified by rustic and fairly bomb-proof decor and furnishings - hence best suited to families and their kids.
Garden Cottage and Pepper Tree both sleep three and are well suited for couples, either alone or with one child. Both have a double bed and one single, kitchenette and bathroom with shower; Pepper Tree has a separate bedroom, while Garden Cottage sports a cozy stoep and braai area.
Karlien Cottage, the medium-sized of the bunch, sleeps two in a separate double room and allows for an additional two on a sleeper couch in the living room. There’s a fully equipped kitchen and small stoep at the front of the cottage.
Harvey and Apricot Cottage are your larger options, each sleeping up to four, with the option of two additional beds if you need them. Harvey Cottage is a thatched abode with impressive views towards the Koo and mountains beyond. There’s a double room and a second room sporting two single beds. The living room has an additional double sleeper couch, should you need to squeeze extras in. An indoor fireplace, kitchen and stoep with braai facilities makes this one a popular choice.
Apricot Cottage, privately nestled in an apricot orchard with views over the mountains, also sports an indoor fireplace and your own outside braai area, which leads off the lounge. The cottage has one double room and a further two beds in the lounge.
There seems to be plenty of space at Qui-Si-Sana, meaning the kids can run wild, while the adults take a breather. With a 12m swimming pool for hot summer days, lots of farmy elements, the nearby hot springs for winter, and a host of options in the area to keep you all busy, Qui-Si-Sana hits the spot when it comes to family-friendly escapes.
