Budget Getaways Review

Pretty in name and reality, Sunflower Cottage would appear to tick most boxes for a snuggle-up weekend in sleepy McGregor.

It's one of the oldest, 'most loved' and most lived-in historical houses in the village. Built way back in the 1880's, it oozes old time goodness: thick adobe walls, mud floors, reed ceilings and a thatched roof. Unlike most modern abodes, it's an all-seasons retreat: cool in summer, cosy in winter.

Sunflower is also ideally situated right in the heart of things, within easy walking distance to the local coffee shops, restaurants and the general dealer. As such it offers an uncomplicated base to the village and the wider surrounds.

Suited to a couple (with or without baby or toddler), the cottage features an ensuite double bedroom with mozzie net draped over the bed. Pure cotton linen, towels, a fully kitted kitchen and a wood-burning stove come standard.

The only mod con that's managed to creep its way through Sunflower's ancient walls, is a super-quick Wi-Fi connection. Apart from that, there's no TV, no DVD player and no washing machine - just old time nostalgic goodness from one wall to the other.

Outside you'll find undercover parking for the Merc, a patio with a braai, as well as lush garden with hammock and bean bags.

What more does one need, we ask?

Guest Reviews

"Absolutely loved the place. People went out of their way to ensure that we were comfortable and welcomed. Can't wait to go back."

"We had a really good relaxing time. Perfect for a couple just needing to take some time out of the concrete jungle."

"Beautiful."

"We had a very relaxing stay in McGregor and love the quaintness of the town. The cottage is gorgeous. We were unhappy with the lack of hot water in the shower though. I'm sure it is fine in summer but in winter we like our HOT showers. We loved the cottage and will be back in the warmer months so we can make use of the outside shower."

Getaway Reply

"Thank you Victoria for your feedback... we're very glad that you enjoyed your stay! We will be replacing the geezer next month, so you will definitely be able enjoy your hot showers next time you visit!"

(Claudia Batschari - owner)

"Peaceful, quiet, beautiful garden, tastefully decorated, everything you need for a relaxing weekend away."
